My First Advanced Line Dance Workshop

Shontell Brown

All Snap’s The Legendary Royal Court Line Dance Event in Los Angeles, October 2016.

At this time, I had only been line dancing for about 2 years, and this was about my fourth line dance event I had ever attended in my life. I was definitely still getting my footwork together. 😊

Needless to say I wanted to challenge myself and try an advanced dance to see how well I would pick up the steps in a short amount of time because as we know learning a new line dance during a line dance workshop can be challenging with the short amount of time given to the instructor as well as trying to see the instructors feet in a room full of people.

My first advanced workshop, Chris Blues teaching “Let It Soak In” line dance. Who do I happen to be standing by, none other than John “Woody Pop” Woodhouse Jr.! Now at that time, I wasn’t familiar with exactly who he was being that I was still fairly new to the line dance culture/community. John was so helpful during this workshop; he was very encouraging which really boosted my confidence in my ability to learn this dance.

My favorite moment of this workshop (as seen in the video below) was when John put his hand on my shoulder and said, “I see you” and I playfully nudged his side and we both laughed and kept dancing. It was one of those moments that I’ve always been able to look back on, smile and still be encouraged to keep dancing.

Check out the video clip from the workshop that day! I’m in the blue shirt and khaki pants and I’m sure you’ll recognize John.

By the way, the red and black colors he wore that day inspired the colorway for my new LNDNCR Tee! The shirt will be available to purchase soon. For now, check out the blog about the new LNDNCR Tee here: LNDNCR Tee

John, thank you for being who you are and doing what you do for the line dance culture/community.
